LG Uplus said Sunday that its business systems and products exhibited at this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona received a warm response from show organizers.
It said the MWC had helped the company search for new businesses related to the Internet of Things (IoT) and fifth-generation (5G) networks through ties with global companies.
“We found out what will be the core business in the 5G era through this show ― FinTech and home IoT," Baek Yong-dae, head of LG Uplus' public relations team, said.
Baek said the LG Group's telecommunications affiliate would launch 10 devices and systems for IoT to keep pace with rapid changes. Mostly the devices and services would be related to security and safety such as door and gas locks.
Baek said LG Uplus would develop emotional content to offer new life experiences with its IoT, cloud and big data technologies.
LG Uplus IoT products, such as the household appliances control system “Home Manager” and skin condition diagnosis application “Magic Mirror,” drew keen interest from global customers at the show, the company said.
Its home-monitoring platform, Mom Car 2, also received warm responses from global companies in Japan and Sweden.
LG Uplus signed an agreement to sell Mom Car 2 and its platform to Ooredoo, a Qatari mobile carrier, at the MWC.
The company also agreed to cooperate with Nokia of Finland in network virtualization technology as a part of preparations for the shift to 5G networks.
LG Uplus Vice President Lee Sang-chul visited the headquarters of Nokia in Helsinki before the MWC to discuss the agreement. He visited more than 15 tech companies including IBM, Cisco, Samsung and LG Electronics during the show.
“We are standing at the point of a new generation, which IoT and software replace human beings,” Baek said. “In order to keep up with the change, we are boosting collaboration with global companies to advance the market.”
