SK C&C establishes safety system for gas supplier

SK C&C, the system integration and IT outsourcing affiliate of SK Group, said Monday it has created a smart information system for a local gas company.

The company said the gas safety management system based on a geographic information system and mobile technology is expected to reduce the danger of possible accidents at Jungbu City Gas facilities.

“The gas management system will help the gas supplier monitor information on gas facilities and pipes and deal with problems in advance to establish a safer gas infrastructure,” said SK C&C’s industry business division chief Choo Ha-sik.

“We will continue to develop various system technologies that are designed to enhance and guarantee the safety of industrial sites.”

SK C&C said the gas safety management system includes a leak detection system and integrated facility information provided by blueprints of each facility, geographic data around the facilities and aerial images of them.

The company also said it has established an emergency response system based on mobile technology.

Field directors can monitor the facility blueprints and visual information on an emergency site to send them to the central control division using mobile devices. The central division can then quickly decide whether the situation is urgent enough to close off gas pipes.
