EMC Korea, the Seoul branch of global cloud computing provider EMC Corp., said Tuesday that enterprises will have to introduce server virtualization technology and cloud computing systems for more efficient business management.

“The conventional server-and-client system requires excessive cost, time and human resources to maintain. Companies have no other option but to turn to the cloud infrastructure in the end,” said EMC Korea CEO Kim Kyeong-jin.

He made the remarks during an opening speech of the company’s EMC Effect Day 2014 at COEX Intercontinental Hotel in Samseong-dong, southern Seoul, Tuesday.

Kim promoted what is called the “Hybrid Cloud” system which combines public and private cloud computing. The former refers to a cloud computing service provided by an agency outside the company while the latter means one owned and managed by the company itself.

“A few years ago, server virtualization and cloud computing were recognized as vague notions. Now, we see them every day in business news reports,” he said. “We pledged to be a dependable partner for our customer companies, helping them establish cost-efficient and agile systems.”

EMC Korea director Chang Yun-chan said only about 30 percent of Korean companies have adopted cloud computing while 86 percent of enterprises in the United States are already using it.

At the event, EMC’s local customer companies and organizations including POSCO ICT, Daewoong Pharmaceutical, Goyang City Hall and social commerce company Wemakeprice participated, alongside an audience of 1,100, and shared their successful examples of how to enhance work efficiency with cloud computing technology.
