KT and LG Electronics have received awards at this year’s Mobile World Congress for their innovative technologies.

KT said it won the Outstanding LTE Contribution Award for its long-term evolution (LTE)-Advanced wireless network, and the CTO’s Choice Award, provided by a panel composed of chief technology officers from 14 leading telecommunications companies.

“The awards means KT is far ahead of its rivals in terms of the quality of LTE-A service and related wireless technologies,” Oh Sung-mok, head of KT’s network business division, said in a press release.

LG also won the Most Innovative Device Manufacturer of the Year Award for its smartphones.

“Our efforts to rise as one of the world’s most innovative companies were paid off. LG will be consistent in putting innovative features on devices,” said a company spokeswoman.

During the technology fair in Barcelona, KT, U.S.-based chip giant Intel and Radisys each demonstrated the world’s first carrier aggregation (CA) LTE small cell solution.

The telecommunications giant is strengthening its strategic business partnerships with China Mobile, NTT DoCoMo and a few others.

LG, the world’s fifth-largest smartphone vendor, has begun shipping its budget smartphones supporting LTE network to China Mobile, the world’s biggest mobile carrier. This is the first time that the Korean company has released LTE mobile in China.

Under the theme of “Knock and Discover Tomorrow,” LG has exhibited some 130 smartphones in eight different categories at its booth.
