LG Group will hold a technology conference in the first quarter both at home and abroad to hire global talents, the group said Sunday.

LG said the group’s main technology affiliates ― LG Electronics, LG Display, LG Chem, LG Innotek, LG Uplus and LG CNS ― will jointly hold the “LG Techno Conference” in and outside Korea by the end of March.

LG spokesman Terry Taekyung Lee said the event will be aimed at hiring talented people with graduate and doctoral degrees. Lee declined to comment on the exact timing of the event.

“LG Chairman Koo Bon-moo will directly manage the events, assisted by the chief executives of the group’s main technology affiliates. We are in the process of making a schedule,” Lee said.

Over the last few years, LG has been hiring experienced personnel with various engineering backgrounds through such events. Koo was in San Francisco to scout North American talent in 2012.

“In South Korea, the conference will have several presentations highlighting LG’s commitment to technology leadership to potential candidates,” Lee said. “In overseas events, a presentation will be focused on how to manage, educate and foster research personnel.”

LG’s efforts to recruit global talent came as there is a growing need to expedite operations in global markets where competition is growing faster than ever.

Besides, its major affiliates, including LG Electronics, are losing ground. For the fourth quarter alone, LG’s mobile phone business reported 43.4 billion won in operating losses, extending its losing streak for the second straight quarter.

LG has some 37,000 research personnel and the group is investing over 3 trillion won to build its massive “LG Science Park” complex on the outskirts of Seoul to house over 20,000 research staff from its 11 affiliates and technology development centers, said LG. The complex will fully operate from 2020.
