LG CEO courts engineers at US tech conference

LG Electronics CEO Lyu Jae-cheol courted talented engineers during a recruiting event in San Francisco as part of the company's efforts to secure specialists in future growth businesses such as robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) data center cooling solutions and mobility.

According to LG Electronics on Monday, Lyu, Chief Technology Officer Kim Byoung-hoon and other executives attended the North America Tech Conference in San Francisco on Saturday (local time), where they shared the company’s vision for its future businesses and highlighted its technological competitiveness.

The event drew around 100 participants, including doctoral students and researchers from Stanford University, Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the University of California, Berkeley and other leading universities and research institutions across the U.S. Experienced research and development professionals working at local Big Tech companies and startups also joined the event.

Sharing his career experience as an engineer-turned-CEO, Lyu said LG Electronics places great importance on securing talent with strong technological expertise.

“LG Electronics is a company where people with technological expertise can grow into key leaders for the company’s future,” he said.

During the event, LG Electronics introduced its business portfolio in robotics, AI data center cooling solutions and intelligent mobility, which the company is fostering as key pillars of its future growth based on physical AI.

LG Electronics said it has a vast pool of manufacturing and production data and know-how, as well as extensive data on homes and customers accumulated through hundreds of millions of its products used worldwide.

The company also has technological leadership in heating, ventilation and air conditioning and automotive components, which have strong potential for expansion into physical AI. It expects greater synergies by combining these strengths with collaboration among group affiliates in areas such as robotics and strategic partnerships with global Big Tech companies.

“In the end, it is people who change the future,” Lyu said. “LG Electronics will continue to create meaningful change in the world together with people who are not afraid to take on greater challenges.”

LG Electronics will hold a series of recruiting events at major universities including MIT, Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Michigan, Purdue University and the University of Illinois, starting Sept. 9.
