Automaker KG Mobility (KGM) said Tuesday that its CEO Hwang Ki-young received the Bronze Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit at a ceremony marking the 23rd Korea Automotive Industry Day, held at JW Marriott Hotel Seoul.

The decoration recognized Hwang's contributions to the development of Korea's automotive industry, particularly in expanding exports and improving the company's profitability since joining KGM in 2023.

The Order of Industrial Service Merit is one of Korea’s primary honors, awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to the nation’s economic development through industrial advancement.

Hwang, who has accumulated global sales experience since 1992 through postings across Europe, the United Kingdom and Russia, initially joined KGM to manage its overseas business.

Under his leadership, KGM's annual exports rose from 45,294 units in 2022 to 52,754 in 2023, 62,378 in 2024 and 70,286 in 2025 — a 55 percent cumulative increase over that period. He was appointed CEO in 2024.

In 2025, KGM posted record revenues of 4.2433 trillion won ($2.8 billion) and an operating profit of 53.6 billion won, achieving a third consecutive year of profitability.

"The quality growth KG Mobility has achieved over the past three years since joining the KG Group was made possible through the dedication and effort of our employees," Hwang said.

"We will continue to contribute to industrial development through sustainable, responsible management and the creation of social value."

Two other KGM employees were also recognized at the ceremony. A team leader in the export management division received a citation from the prime minister for contributions to export logistics diversification and cost reductions.

A team leader in the eco-friendly vehicle product management division was recognized by the minister of trade, industry and resources for leading development of the Torres EVX and Musso EV electric vehicle programs.
