Lamps on the floor and strip lights attached to the ceiling and the back of a television emitted red, green, blue, yellow and other colors Thursday, detecting the movements of people inside a Seoul home used as an Airbnb residence.
In another room, lights synchronized to music beats flickered and shifted colors.
During a press conference introducing the Wi-Fi-enabled lighting products Signify brought to the Korean market, the world's leading lighting company said the five new products were designed to offer a more immersive entertainment experience.
The Dutch company, formerly Philips Lighting, released the new products under the brand name of WiZ, a smart lighting startup acquired by Signify in 2019. The lineup includes the WiZ HDMI Sync Box TV Lightstrip, RGB LED Strip 15m, RGBIC LED Strip 5m, Gradient Floor and Dial Switch.
Signify said users can easily control the new devices with the WiZ mobile app or the Dial Switch.
WiZ HDMI Sync Box TV Lightstrip, a highlight of the event, features real-time syncing with television displays and rhythm-based lighting effects using its built-in microphone. It is designed for televisions between 55 and 65 inches, and between 75 and 85 inches.
Both the 15-meter and 5-meter strip lights offer over 16 million solid colors. They can be cut easily to different lengths and attached to surfaces with non-damaging adhesive. Along with the WiZ Gradient Floor, a tall standing lamp with a minimalist design, these products can display multiple colors simultaneously or transition between them gradually.
The new products also offer smart dimming and scheduling. Matter-certified for smart home integration, they work with Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings.
“The new products we are launching in the second half of the year reflect WiZ’s innovative direction for smart homes,” a Signify Korea product manager said. “We are committed to providing experiences that make living spaces more vibrant and enriching through smart lighting.”
