Audi has introduced the all-new A5 sedan in Korea, the German auto brand said Tuesday.
Manufactured by Audi’s newly developed production platform for plug-in hybrid and combustion engine models, Premium Platform Combustion, the third-generation Audi A5 sedan features high-efficiency mild hybrid (MHEV) Plus technology for the first time for the automaker’s diesel model.
According to Audi, the MHEV Plus technology integrates a powertrain generator, belt alternator starter and lithium iron phosphate battery to offer enhanced performance, reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions.
Since the model’s initial production in 2008, the A5 sedan has long attracted fans with a sport luxury design featuring a tech-focused interior, solid comfort and competitive performance. The German luxury auto brand says they are ready to take on competitors like Mercedes-Benz’s C-Class and BMW’s 4 Series.
Each trim, or version, of the Audi A5 offers the carmaker’s signature Quattro all-wheel drive system with the 7-speed S-tronic dual-clutch gearbox to deliver dynamic driving performance. The A5 40 TFSI Quattro offers maximum 204 horsepower with 34.67 kg/m torque while the 45 TFSI delivers maximum 271.9 horsepower and 40.79 kg/m torque.
The A5 40 TDI Quattro features maximum 204 horsepower with 40.789 kg/m torque. The most powerful S5 TFSI sedan delivers 367 horsepower with 56.08 kg/m torque. Thanks to the MHEV Plus technology, these two trims boast longer drive range and reduced diesel engine vibration compared to their previous versions.
The new A5 sedan also offers greater cargo volume and interior space since it has become 65 millimeters longer, 15 mm wider and 25 mm taller. Audi’s redefined emblem matches well with its sporty roofline.
The sedan’s rear deck lid now opens with the rear window. This liftback design facilitates more effortless cargo loading and unloading so drivers can enjoy the practicality of a hatchback without losing the sportiness of a coupe-like profile.
The interior features a panoramic glass roof with electrochromic technology for shade level adjustment. Drivers can also select an optional dynamic interaction light — an LED strip running across the top of the dashboard, providing visual cues that reflect functions such as locking and unlocking doors and turn signal operation.
The all-new A5 sedan’s price ranges from 57.89 million won ($41,614) to 83.42 million won.
