Samsung SDI announced Wednesday that it has signed a deal with Tesvolt, a leading German manufacturer specializing in commercial energy storage systems (ESS), to supply its all-in-one battery solution, the Samsung Battery Box (SBB).

The company will deliver SBB to Tesvolt by the end of this month. Tesvolt will then integrate the batteries with its own power conversion systems and advanced cybersecurity features to create and provide its own ESS solution for customers.

“We’ve been supplying ESS batteries to Tesvolt since 2017, and this new SBB agreement will take our partnership to the next level. We’re going to ramp up our push into European and other global markets,” a Samsung SDI official said.

In addition, the two companies also agreed to explore further supply deals and strengthen their partnership through joint marketing efforts to win forthcoming ESS projects.

“The SBB features a unique solution to prevent battery fires, the enhanced direct injection system, and is also highly durable and low noise,” Tesvolt said, indicating possibly more collaborations in the future.

“Samsung SDI provides a battery storage system that suits the needs of ESS system operators.”

Samsung SDI’s SBB is a 20-foot container fully equipped with battery cells, modules and racks, which can be used immediately by simply connecting it to the power grid. Known for its significant safety features and reliability, SBB has already earned a solid reputation in the global market, notably in the United States and Europe.

Samsung SDI plans to complete the supply of its current SBB 1.0 model to Tesvolt and begin delivering the upgraded SBB 1.5 starting in the second quarter of next year. Launched last year, the SBB 1.5 features enhanced capacity, improved safety and greater ease of installation and operation. It received the Innovation Award at CES 2025, the world’s largest tech event, held earlier this year in Las Vegas.

Founded in 2014, Tesvolt is one of Europe’s top commercial ESS providers, rapidly expanding its presence in the market. It has landed major contracts, including the ESS facility in Germany’s Rhineland-Palatinate last year.

The company is now expanding its business into the public utilities sector and is expected to strengthen its cooperation with Samsung SDI, which is known for its product safety, quality and technological competitiveness.

In its first quarter earnings call in April, Samsung SDI announced that it has already secured orders equivalent to 90 percent of its planned capacity for ESS batteries this year.
