Samsung Bioepis, a biosimilar medicine developer under Samsung Group, nominated its executive vice president Kim Kyung-ah as new CEO, the company said Wednesday, a move that can produce the first-ever female CEO among Samsung Group affiliates.

Kim is a biosimilar expert who has earned bachelor's and master's degrees for pharmacology from Seoul National University and a doctorate from Johns Hopkins University, according to the company.

She entered Samsung Group in 2010 as a biopharmaceutical researcher and joined Samsung Bioepis in 2015.

Should she be named the new CEO, she will be the first female chief executive to lead a Samsung affiliate. (Yonhap)
