HD Hyundai received two prizes at this year’s Red Dot Design Award for the excellent designs of its unmanned construction equipment and self-navigating ship technologies, the company said Thursday.

Future-X, a futuristic concept for the construction equipment of HD Hyundai XiteSolution, the business group’s heavy machinery manufacturing unit, won the Best of the Best Award in the field of design concept.

During the CES 2024 trade show in Las Vegas in January, HD Hyundai showcased Future-X for its Xite Transformation vision. The company said that it designed the next-generation unmanned heavy equipment to enhance safety, productivity and sustainability on construction sites.

In particular, the cabinless equipment can be transformed into an excavator, wheel loader and articulated dump truck by changing its upper body. Its four-legged crawler and adaptive track system also enable smoother autonomous work on bumpy roads. Its radars, cameras and around-view monitor can enhance the safety of unmanned construction work.

Future-X is on the list of candidates to win the Luminary Award, which is given by Red Dot Design in October to the best-designed product of the year.

NeuBoat, an autonomous navigation system developed by Avikus, an HD Hyundai subsidiary specializing in self-navigation technologies, was also awarded in the field of design concept.

This is the first time for an Avikus’ product to receive a prize from the Red Dot Design Award.

NeuBoat was designed to minimize human errors during the operation of leisure boats. It was recognized for its system that prevents accidents during sailing and anchoring, as well as for its convenient and intuitive interface.

“These achievements can be attributed to our efforts to fulfill our group’s vision, not just to develop aesthetic products,” an HD Hyundai official said. “We will do our best for technical reviews so that the award-winning designs can be applied to real products.”

The Red Dot Design Award is known as one of the world’s three most renowned design awards, along with the iF Design Award and the International Design Excellence Awards.
