POSCO installs artistic fences at cultural heritage restoration site

POSCO is contributing to the enhancement of urban aesthetics by utilizing PosART steel plates made with PosMAC, its corrosion-resistant steel plate technology, in various locations, the company said Monday.

POSCO said PosART steel plates express vivid colors and delicate textures with a resolution that is up to four times higher than conventional products by grafting its unique ink with high corrosion resistance properties onto the steel.

The company said it has been transforming the cultural heritage restoration sites of palaces and tombs, managed by the Korea Heritage Service, into spaces of public art and relaxation.

On April 25, the Korea Heritage Service held an event to unveil an art fence made with PosART technology around Seonwonjeon Hall in Deoksu Palace, Seoul.

This is part of a project that POSCO Group and the Korea Heritage Service have been working on since they signed a memorandum of understanding last August to improve the design of restoration sites for palaces and tombs.

"This is a new attempt to improve the public design environment by using PosMAC technology of POSCO Steeleon on PosART, a corrosion-resistant special steel, instead of plastic panels and sheet materials for the fences at cultural heritage restoration sites," POSCO said.

POSCO plans to continuously expand the application of its steel products in restoration works of cultural heritage sites such as Gyeongbok Palace. The company added that PosART is being used in various public facilities.

Last April, POSCO, in collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, installed a large information board for Seoul Trail Course 2.0, made with PosART. This project was part of the agreement signed between POSCO and the city in July last year.

POSCO supported the production of information boards that introduce all sections of the upgraded Seoul Trail Course with PosART. POSCO has installed the boards at six major points, such as Mount Acha, Hwagye Temple and Maeheon Citizen's Forest, with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to provide citizens with information at a glance.
