Osstem Implant has become a training hub for foreign dentists, who show interest in its advanced implant technologies as well as opportunities to visit the company and get their hands on its cutting-edge equipment and best practices, according to the dental implant technology developer, Thursday.
The company said that more than 1,650 dentists from overseas visited its headquarters in western Seoul last year. They came from over 16 countries including China, the United States, Russia, Turkey, Japan, India, the Philippines, Brazil and Iraq during 73 separate visits.
The visitors saw the company's central laboratory, its medical products and a typical example of a dentist's office set up at the firm's office. They also tried the company's latest surgical equipment for educational purposes as part of the tour.
International visitors started flocking to the firm after the country's central disease control authority recategorized the COVID-19 pandemic to endemic status last year. The company then resumed its tour program for overseas visitors, after remaining closed during the pandemic.
"Those who joined our tours are very much satisfied as they value observing the cutting-edge medical technologies up close as it is a rare and valuable experience," a company official said. "We expect there will be more than 3,000 dentists visiting from overseas this year."
The dentistry industry is having a major event in Seoul this year, as the company is set to host the Osstem World Meeting, a global scholarly symposium involving lectures and networking sessions, from April 27 to 28. Being held in Seoul for the first time in 13 years, the company expects the event will draw a massive number of visitors from around the globe.
Built in 2020, the company's office consists of two 10-story buildings with 14 labs and 13 seminar halls all equipped with the latest surgical tools. It also built a pavilion the same year inside the office to exhibit its new products. The office has become a must-visit site for medical practitioners in dentistry, according to the official.
The company's tour program saw a total of over 4,240 visitors last year. The biggest portion of them were students and instructors in the field of dental hygiene and dentures. Also among the visitors were professors and surgeons from dental hospitals, dentists and workers from local dental clinics as well as researchers and government officials.
