Hyundai Elevator became one of the winners of the Good Design Award 2023, with its PI-DD, which combines an air purifier and sterilizer with a floor indicator inside an elevator, the company said Monday.

Equipped with perforated metal that displays information, PI-DD is designed for users to realize the air circulation’s function more naturally.

In addition, its intake and discharge ports are hidden on the side and top of the front part of the perforated holes. Its magnetic cover also enables easier maintenance, reducing the risk of damage that may occur during attachment and detachment for maintenance.

“The COVID-19 pandemic that has dominated the world over the past three years has now come to an end, but people still feel the need for air purification and sterilization in spaces where many people gather,” said Yoon Haak-nam, who designed PI-DD. “A new category of product that had not existed previously was created by integrating an air purifier and sterilizer with a floor indicator.”

The adjudicators recognized PI-DD for its simple and unobtrusive surface design.

“Conventional air purifiers match poorly with the interior design of elevators, making the space even more suffocating,” the judge said. “This product is great as it can be installed as an indicator. Also, it is easy to clean.”

Given by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion, the Good Design Award is seen as one of the world’s top four major design awards, along with the Red Dot, the iF and the International Design Excellence Awards.

By winning the Good Design Award, Hyundai Elevator has now won all four design awards.
