Hyundai Motor Group said, Thursday, that it sponsored the Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-koo Cup Korean Archery Competition 2023, organized by the Korean Archery Association. The competition began Thursday and will continue through Sunday.
Established in 2016, the competition is a prestigious archery event where top-tier archers from Korea, possessing world-class skills, compete against each other. This year marks the 3rd edition. Particularly, this year's event has been significantly expanded to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Korean archery.
Hyundai Motor Group has decided to sponsor this competition to assist Korean archers in gaining practical experience at a high level and to enhance public interest in archery. The title sponsors include Hyundai Motor, Kia, Hyundai Mobis and Hyundai Steel.
This year's competition will be held at the Yongsan War Memorial of Korea and Mokdong Stadium.
Noteworthy athletes, including Kim Woo-jin, Kim Je-deok and An San, who won gold medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, as well as exceptional athletes who participated in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou and reserve athletes, are expected to compete. This edition of the competition will feature the largest number of participants since its inception, with a total of 209 athletes competing.
The winners will be awarded 100 million won ($75,500), and 25 percent of the prize money will be given to the winning athletes' coaches for to support research into enhanced performance.
The event will be broadcast on SPOTV, with live coverage scheduled for the 2nd and 3rd of next month, starting from the round of 16 up to the finals.
Hyundai Motor Group has been a comprehensive supporter of Korean archery since Chairman Chung Mong-koo took office of the Korean Archery Association in 1985. Chairman Chung Euisun of Hyundai Motor Group is currently serving as the chairman of the Korean Archery Association for the 5th consecutive year.
