Hyundai Mobis offered a snapshot of its future vision during the “2023 Media Tech Day” at the auto parts maker's The Studio M in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, Monday, aiming to become a leader in the burgeoning field of vehicle displays spearheaded by advancements in autonomous driving, and connectivity technology.

During the event, the Hyundai Motor Group affiliate emphasized its strategy of becoming the lead innovator in the field highlighting proprietary technologies, including the world's first 34-inch curved display called the "swivel display," a rollable display, and hologram AR-HUD technologies.

Hyundai Mobis also revealed plans to secure market-leading technologies, such as Passenger Interactive Displays, Quantum Dot (QD) Mini LED Displays, Natural 3D Displays, Hologram AR-HUD, and Micro LED Displays.

The Passenger Interactive Display enables the implementation of a "digital cockpit," while Micro LED and QD Mini LED displays are next-generation technologies known for their high resolution and low power consumption.

According to market research firm, DSCC, the size of the global market for vehicle displays is expected to reach around $14 billion by 2027.

Hyundai Mobis plans to secure its own design, validation, and production capabilities for core technologies to obtain next-generation display solutions for vehicles. The company aims to strengthen comprehensive management capabilities in key areas of display manufacturing technology for vehicles, including optical and mechanical design, quality and reliability verification, and supply chain management.

Hyundai Mobis is set to enhance cooperation with specialized manufacturing companies for display panels. By securing these internal capabilities, the company said it will be able to respond to customer requirements with customized solutions based on technological stability and reliability.

"Hyundai Mobis is developing various vehicle display technologies focusing on innovation in space, user satisfaction, and passenger safety. We will provide solutions optimized for the future mobility environment," said Han Young-hoon, Hyundai Mobis head of Electronics Convenience and Control at the auto parts maker.

At the event, Hyundai Mobis demonstrated three display technologies, including swivel and rollable displays, as well as a 25-inch local dimming HUD, all of which are world-first developments. This marks the first time that Hyundai Mobis has directly demonstrated these technologies at a public event. Notably, the swivel display and the 25-inch local dimming HUD are technologies that received innovation awards at CES 2023, earlier this year.

The company has been continuously strengthening sales of high-value-added products in the core components field, such as AR HUDs and vehicle infotainment systems. The overseas sales target for Hyundai Mobis' core component division this year is $5.35 billion.
