Hyundai Mobis, an auto parts unit of Hyundai Motor Group, is focusing on research and development to take the lead in the global market for in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) technology, the company said Thursday.

The company unveiled its blueprint to provide an integrated solution tailored to customer needs after declaring its future strategy of aiming to become a mobility platform provider at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held in Las Vegas in Jan. Three out of four IVI-related technologies it showcased at the tech event also won Innovation Awards there.

The world-first integrated cockpit swivel display received much attention at CES 2023. The 34-inch super curved display, which runs from the driver's seat to the passenger seat, moves in and out of the cockpit. It not only provides various driving information but also 3-dimensional navigation as well as infotainment.

The company's local dimming head-up display (HUD) developed based on full array local dimming (FALD) technology, caught visitors' attention too. So-called mini-LED, FALD local dimming is an essential technology for implementing high dynamic range that optimizes brightness and contrast ratios in digital images. Hyundai Mobis adopted local dimming to its HUD to improve image quality by increasing contrast ratios while lowering the heat and power consumption of the screen.

Another noticeable technology is its brainwave-based driver monitoring system M.Brain. Hyundai Mobis developed the technology for the first time in the world to reduce car accidents. M.Brain is an earphone system that determines the driver's condition in real-time by detecting brain waves from the brain. It functions by showing warning signs on an LED, alarming and vibrating the driver's seat.

Lastly, the auto parts maker collaborated with global software company Luxoft to jointly develop next-generation vehicle infotainment platforms. It presented them at the International Suppliers Fair hosted by Volkswagen in Germany, last year.
