S-Oil supports energy-poor households with 1 bil. won donation

S-Oil donated 1 billion won ($792,895) to the Korea National Council on Social Welfare to help vulnerable people who are suffering from the recent surge in heating costs this winter, according to the company, Wednesday.

Hussain A. Al-Qahtani, CEO of S-Oil, delivered a check for 1 billion won to Kim Soung-yee, president of the Korea National Council on Social Welfare. S-Oil's donation will be used to support energy-vulnerable groups and welfare facilities, including families of grandparents and grandchildren without parents; senior citizens living alone; the disabled and multicultural families, the company said.

“We hope this winter will help our economically challenged neighbors reduce their heating bills and keep them warm,” the S-Oil CEO said. “We will continue to expand sharing management by paying attention to our neighbors in need.”

Despite the cold weather, many vulnerable people are struggling with rising energy costs.

“Although most of the heating fuel has been converted to gas, some welfare facilities and rural areas still use kerosene for heating. That's why we decided to support heating costs for vulnerable people to ease their energy cost burden,” a spokesperson of S-Oil said.

S-Oil has been consistently supporting energy-vulnerable people through its Hope to You campaign.
