Chey promotes Busan's Expo bid in Paris

SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won discussed economic coordination with leaders of foreign countries in Davos, Switzerland, where the World Economic Forum (WEF) was held, according to the group, Friday.
The group added that Chey, who is also chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and co-chair of the Bid Committee for World Expo 2030 Busan, is scheduled to have a dinner with around 10 ambassadors representing member nations of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in Paris, the same day (France time).
During the WEF, Chey met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Jan. 18 to share opinions on economic teamwork between Korea and the European country.
In the meeting, Chey talked not only about the businesses of SK Group affiliates but also the entire Korean economy, suggesting the president find ways to utilize the supply chains of Korean companies, according to the group.
“Korea has global supply chains in electric vehicles and batteries, and has strengths in digital transformation, green energy and bio. This will enable cooperation in various sectors with Serbia,” Chey told the president.
Chey also asked for Serbia's support for Busan's bid to host the World Expo 2030.
President Vucic told Chey in response, according to SK: “Serbia has good conditions to attract investments from overseas in terms of infrastructure, economic growth rate, corporate tax and maritime transportation. We have attracted investments from global companies based in the United States.”
After their meeting, the Serbian president also attended the Korea Night event held at a hotel in Davos and met with Korean government officials and entrepreneurs.
During the Korea Night, Chey also asked Montenegro President Milo Djukanovic to help Busan host the World Expo 2030.
Busan is competing for the host city spot with Riyadh of Saudi Arabia, Rome of Italy and Odesa of Ukraine. The host city will be decided by the votes from the BIE member countries in November.
SK Group has been actively promoting Busan's bid to overseas countries, taking the promotional activity as an opportunity to introduce the strengths of Korea and the group.
