KT's board of directors recommended incumbent CEO Ku Hyeon-mo as the final and sole candidate for the company's next chief executive, to be appointed at the regular general meeting of shareholders in March, the company said Wednesday.
Earlier this month, KT's CEO candidate review committee informed board members that Ku is eligible for a second term. Considering major shareholders' concerns over the governance structure of companies that lack controlling shareholders, KT's board of directors decided to screen multiple candidates.
As a result, 13 KT executives and 14 outside experts were longlisted as CEO candidates. Following the seven rounds of screening, Ku was finally chosen as the sole candidate to be the next CEO.
According to the telecom firm, the incumbent CEO was recognized for improving the company's corporate value and transforming the mobile carrier into a digital platform provider.
“After checking legal issues regarding his reappointment, our board of directors concluded that he is eligible to serve another term,” KT said in its press release.
