Korea Ginseng Corporation (KGC) said Wednesday that its juice packs made of local fruit and vegetables have become increasingly popular, based on the quality of the ingredients.

CheongKwanJang's health product brand, Good Base, offers three types of healthy juice packs, each made from purple onions, mulberries and red cabbage. The juice packs are made from fresh produce that is harvested during that same year. The products are only available during the seasons in which the fruit and vegetables are harvested.

KGC said that 12,000 sets of the purple onion and mulberry juice packs were sold in the month since the products were launched.

The juice packs offer a checklist to ensure quality. The checklist includes factors such as using seasonal ingredients and passing 290 safety tests. Consumers are able to check the list by scanning a QR code on the juice package.

The purple onion juice uses produce from Muan, South Jeolla Province. The region is the main production area for onions in Korea and they have a geographical indication mark. Geographical indication is marked on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin.

KGC has set up a partnership with the Muan local government to secure quality onions for its juice product. Muan onions are known for their rich nutrients, deep flavor and sweet taste. The purple onion juice pack is made 100 percent from the onion, without adding any water.

The mulberry juice is made with produce from Buan, North Jeolla Province. Mulberries from Buan also have a geographical indication mark. Buan mulberries are large in size and are known for their sweet taste.

KGC has also partnered with the government of Buan to obtain its superior-quality produce. The mulberry juice is also made 100 percent from Buan mulberries.

The red cabbage juice uses ingredients from Jeju Island that are grown without pesticides. The juice is made from red cabbage, broccoli and carrots, with apple concentrate.
