Kim Joo-ho, president of the local public relations agency KPR, was named chairman of the Korea Public Relations Association (KPRA), Thursday.
The association appointed Kim as its chairman at its general meeting held the same day.
Kim, who was previously with marketing firm Cheil Worldwide, has built extensive experience in fields including sports marketing and event PR during his 35-year career. He served as executive vice president of games planning and communications for the PyeongChang Olympics 2018, and won the Olympic Order of Merit from the International Olympics Committee for his contributions to the Olympic Games.
"I will endeavor to make public relations play a pivotal role in promoting communications in our society by raising awareness of PR and reflecting PR professionals' voices, in response to changing trends," Kim said was cited as saying in a press release.
"Our association will faithfully serve as a platform where PR professionals, academia and the PR industry better interact and communicate with each other," he said.
The KPRA is comprised of corporate PR professionals, professors and other PR experts. It was founded in 1989 to promote the PR industry in Korea and protect the rights and interests of PR professionals.
The association has sought to promote exchanges among PR professionals and share PR knowledge via various events and programs, including the Korea PR Awards and PR training.
KPR is one of the largest PR consultancies in Korea.
