LG Chem beefs up environmental CSR

LG Chem has been strengthening efforts to resolve environmental issues through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities.

The global leading chemical company has announced its Green Connector project to challenge worsening climate change and other environmental problems.

The Green Connector vision places emphasis on enhancing environmental awareness and protection in four main categories: Green Education, Green Energy, Green Ecology and Green Economy.

As part of its Green Ecology project, the company has been expanding activities to preserve biodiversity and to pass on a rich natural environment to the next generation.

First, employees involved in the Green Ecology activity joined hands with the Korean Federation for Environmental Movements (KFEM) to promote biodiversity on Bamseom, an island in the Han River in the heart of Seoul. It also recruited university students as supporters for the initiative.

Starting from October, the supporters will receive assistance from experts specialized in the ecology of Bamseom to develop teaching materials related to biodiversity and hold lectures using the materials at various facilities including local youth centers over the following six months.

The supporters will also carry out various activities to improve awareness of environmental protection on social medial platforms. To relay the importance of resolving environmental issues, LG Chem will distribute the teaching materials made by its student supporters to youth centers around the nation.

Since December 2018, the company established an ecosystem experience zone at an observatory on Mapo Bridge over the Han River in cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government. There, LG Chem displayed a diverse range of content related to the environment to raise awareness about related issues.

LG Chem has also set a goal to respond to climate change with Green Energy, utilizing renewable energy sources and increasing energy efficiency.

The company has partnered with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and charity Community Chest of Korea to tackle various environmental issues. It has built solar panels and offers the financial benefits to young people.

To achieve its Green Economy goal, the company added it has been providing various support programs including financial support for companies that are engaging in eco-friendly projects.
