LG Chem has launched its LIKE GREEN online program to educate elementary and middle school students about environmental and science issues as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, the company said Tuesday.
With the COVID-19 pandemic still rampant, LG Chem came up with the non-face-to-face CSR program to raise interest in environmental issues through online group activities with collegiate mentors. In cooperation with non-profit organizations such as Korea Food for the Hungry International, LG Chem is recruiting 100 elementary and middle school students for the LIKE GREEN program.
For those who are interested in joining the program, LG Chem is receiving applications on its webpage at
until Dec. 21. The applicants are required to present self-introduction videos of around 30 seconds and applications illustrating their interest in environmental and science issues.
With the college mentors, the selected students will take part in group activities and learn about the environment under the theme of G.R.E.E.N. (global warming, recycling, energy, ecosystems and next-generation technology) for three months from January to March.
In each course of the program, students will learn how to turn carbon dioxide into a valuable resource, make art using recyclable materials, create electric power using natural energy, learn about how a new virus affects the ecosystem and study various kinds of next-generation technologies such as new materials, artificial intelligence and big data, LG Chem said.
The students taking part in the program will also hold an online event titled G.R.E.E.N to share their achievements from the program with their friends and family.
“Through the program, LG Chem will try to nurture young people who care about the environment, and contribute to reduce the education gap, which has become severe due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Park Joon-sung, external cooperation officer at LG Chem, said.
