S-Oil said Monday it was listed on this year's Dow Jones Sustainability World Indices (DJSI World), becoming the first Asian refiner to be recognized as a corporate leader in global sustainability for 11 straight years.
The DJSI is operated by S&P Dow Jones Indices and considered one of the most prestigious global indices to track the largest and leading sustainability-driven publicly listed companies. The DJSI family has global, regional, and country benchmarks.
The DJSI World list includes 323 companies this year, the top 12.7 percent of the 2,540 global companies evaluated. Including S-Oil, 17 Korean companies were listed as DSJI World constituents for tracking.
S-Oil first joined both DJSI World and DJSI Asia Pacific in 2010 and have been maintaining its spot on the indices. The company also joined DJSI Korea this year.
“The 11 straight years of inclusion shows S-Oil has reached a global level in transparency, and its efforts to reflect stakeholders' expectations for company management were recognized,” S-Oil said in a statement. “We will stay committed to our goal of becoming the most competitive and respected energy and chemical company in the Asia-Pacific region and fulfill sustainability objectives.”
On this year's list, Samsung Electro-Mechanics has been included for the 12th consecutive year. Samsung Securities and Hyundai Construction and Engineering joined S-Oil to be included for the 11th straight year. Among refiners, SK Innovation was included for the fourth consecutive year.
Other Korean 2020 DJSI World constituents include LG Electronics, LG Household & Health Care, Mirae Asset Daewoo, Coway, SK Holdings, Samsung C&T, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, KB Financial, Shinhan Financial, Hankook Tire & Technology, Samsung SDI and Hyundai Steel.
