Samsung unveils new S20 series and foldable phone at 'Unpacked'

SAN FRANCISCO ― Samsung Electronics kicked off its Galaxy Unpacked 2020 at San Francisco's Palace of Fines Arts at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday (local time) showcasing its state-of-the-art S20 series of smartphones and the foldable Galaxy Z Flip phone.

Around 3,000 people took part in the event, where it unveiled the Galaxy S20, S20 Plus and S20 Ultra, as well as Galaxy Z Flip and the wireless Galaxy Buds Plus.

“As we enter this new decade, 5G will completely change how we communicate and how we experience the world around us,” said Roh Tae-moon, president and head of Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “As all three Galaxy S20 variants come with 5G connectivity, Samsung is providing a next-generation device to transform people's lives. With an incredible, AI powered camera, you can capture the moments as they happen and connect more seamlessly with the people you love.”

Camera resolution has been significantly increased for the S20 series with flexibility for zooming, alongside updated editing and cropping.

The S20 and S20 Plus are equipped with a 64MP camera, the while S20 Ultra sports a 108MP camera.

In addition, larger sensors create rich image quality even in low light situations. Another benefit is that these take in more light, providing rich image quality even in low light situations. The S20 Ultra has an option to shift between a high resolution 108MP mode and a 12MP mode.

The Galaxy S20's Space Zoom technology has significantly evolved and the S20 and S20 Plus use a combination of Hybrid Optic Zoom and Super Resolution Zoom for 30X resolution, while the revolutionary folding lenses on the S20 Ultra offers 100X zoom.

The Single Take function of the camera, offers a number of options such as Live Focus, Cropped and Ultra Wide among others, and suggests the best photo or video using AI technology.

The S20 also offers a strong gaming experience through its fast processor, 12GB of RAM , audio tuned by AKG and a game booster working in the background to optimize settings for peak performance.

All three use Dynamic AMOLED technology with a 120Hz refresh rate capable of delivering non-standalone and standalone 5G capabilities.

The Galaxy S20 sports a 4,000mAh battery, while the S20 Plus has a 4,500mAh and the Ultra, a 5,000mAh battery.

The Galaxy S20 series will be available starting March 6 in various classic colors including Cosmic Black and Cosmic Grey.

Galaxy Z Flip

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip sporting a bold and stylish design for people seeking cutting-edge technology and ways to better express themselves.

The foldable phone is the first to use Ultra Thin Glass (UTG), and features a 6.7 inch display.

“Galaxy Z Flip is an important next step as we look to build the foldable category by bringing to consumers a new form factor, new display and most importantly, a new kind of mobile experience,” Roh said. “With Galaxy Z Flip's unique foldable design and user experience, we're redefining what a mobile device can be, and what it enables consumers to do.”

The Galaxy Z Flip is designed to fold into a wallet size and is available in limited quantities in Mirror Purple and Mirror Black in selected markets including the U.S. and Korea.
