Volkswagen Korea said Thursday it has launched a discount program for the Arteon, allowing customers to buy the premium sedan for less than 45 million won ($37,850).
It is offering a 22 percent discount for those buying the Arteon through Volkswagen Financial Services this month, up from 14 percent, the German brand said.
This lowers the price of the Arteon 2.0 TDI Premium (52.25 million won) and the Arteon Elegance Prestige (57.19 million won) to below 45 million won.
For those paying cash, Volkswagen Korea is offering a 21 percent discount, up from 13 percent.
The Arteon is spearheading Volkswagen's rebound in Korea, with more than 500 sold since delivery of the 2019 model resumed in May.
In May and June, the Arteon ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in imported diesel car sales in Korea, respectively. In July, it was the only midsize sedan in the top 10 of imported car sales.
The Arteon is one of the models leading the comeback of the sedan's popularity in the domestic market, as its sporty look appeals to customers bored by monotonous designs, the company said. The Korea Automobile Journalists' Association awarded the Arteon best design of 2019.
Highlighted by its fastback roofline, the Arteon's sharp silhouette garnered keen attention among auto fans before its launch, while its spacious cabin sits on a 2.84-meter wheelbase, the company said.
The Arteon also comes with cutting-edge drive assist and safety features, including adaptive cruise and chassis controls, front collision warning, and traffic jam and parking assist.
A two-liter turbocharged direct-injection engine ― coupled with a seven-speed direct-shift gearbox ― creating up to 190 horsepower and 40.8 kilogram-meters of torque, powers the vehicle. It takes 7.7 seconds to reach 100 kilometers per hour from a standstill. Fuel economy is up to 15 kilometers a liter.
“The discount event during this month adds more attractiveness to the Arteon, which is already drawing keen interest among customers with its design, solid performance, safety features and efficiency,” a Volkswagen Korea official said. “We expect the discount event will boost the vehicle's sales.”
