GS Group donated 4 billion won ($3.6 million) to the Community Chest of Korea, the charity organization, Tuesday, as part of efforts to help neighbors in need.

The group said its Chairman Huh Chang-soo has stressed the importance of corporate social responsibility, calling on companies to faithfully play a role in giving hope to society and growing together.
“We all need to participate in making our society a warmer and happier place to live,” Huh said.
The group said GS affiliates will continue to carry out activities to help others by utilizing their capability and specialty so that people in need can be allowed to dream and hope.
Apart from the donation, employees of each GS affiliate have been actively conducting social contribution programs.
GS Caltex, oil refiner, has formed 23 programs including making kimchi for the winter season and delivering heating oil to those in need. About 750 employees and their families participate in the programs annually, which have lasted for 14 years.
GS Retail, which runs convenience store chains GS25, has organized 64 volunteer groups based on their branches nationwide, carrying out consistent activities such as the delivery of briquettes and the cleaning of nursing homes.
GS Home Shopping has supported sales of products produced by social enterprises that offer jobs to vulnerable members of society.
GS EPS, an LNG-based power generating unit, has supported culture promotion projects and events in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province. The company has also contributed to improving the education environment for teenagers by awarding scholarships and educational materials.
GS Donghae Electric Power, a subsidiary of wind power generator GS E&R, has recently delivered 120 boxes of kimchi to the underprivileged.
GS Global and GS Energy joined hands to deliver disaster relief aid of $100,000 to Indonesia that suffered from a massive earthquake and tsunami in September.
GS Sports has operated the FC Seoul soccer classes for children around Seoul, which are designed to help young players from multicultural families achieve their dreams.
