GS Caltex President Hur Sae-hong
GS Group is adding a breath of fresh air to its leadership, appointing a fourth-generation owner family member as the president of its refining unit GS Caltex.
According to the group, Wednesday, it appointed GS Global CEO Hur Sae-hong, 49, as the new president of GS Caltex. He is the son of Hur Dong-soo, former chairman of the refining giant, and the oldest member of the fourth generation to work for the GS family business.
The new GS Caltex president was educated at Stanford University and established his career at world-renowned companies such as IBM and Chevron Corp. He joined GS Caltex in 2007 and served as head of the company's Singapore body, manager of factory production planning and chief of its petrochemical and lubricant division.
After becoming the head of GS Global in 2017, he focused on diversifying the trading unit's business portfolio, tapping into the resources business by acquiring stakes in a coal mine in Indonesia.
“He was appointed as the new president in recognition of his contributions to GS Global's improvements in its trading businesses and expansion into the resources business,” a GS official said. “Such experience will make a huge contribution towards enabling GS Caltex to grow further.”
