KCCI holds 5th photo contest

/The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) will hold its fifth photo contest, offering 100 million won ($92,824) in prizes.

According to the KCCI, Thursday, it will receive applications for the annual contest from June 1 to Sept. 30. This year's theme is “The workplace and life of businesspeople,” and anyone interested in the contest can apply for either press or non-press divisions.

The submission fee is 1,000 won for each entry, and all profits will be donated to charity.

The KCCI said judges will look for originality, freshness and rarity in photos, but will not allow computer graphics or rendered images, as well as other works found to be plagiarized.

“As the contest meets its fifth year, we now have more than 10,000 photos,” said Lee Kyoung-ryul, a professor at Joongang University who will be judging the photos. “The judges will try to exclude the same old works, such as a flying flag on high-rise office buildings or welding flames at construction sites.”

The KCCI contest is one of Korea's largest photo contests. The winner of the grand prize will receive 30 million won; the two second-place winners will get 5 million won each; and each of the five third-place winners will receive 2 million won. Thirty fourth-place winners will each get 500,000 won.

Winners will be announced in November and their works will be exhibited and produced as a video clip.

Participants can submit their photos at kcciphoto.korcham.net by computer or smartphone. Photos taken by smartphone can also be uploaded.

“We are trying to capture the lives of businessmen, who are the engine of corporate businesses,” a KCCI spokesman said. “We expect many works portraying hidden moments or fresh views into business.”
