LG Uplus has launched Korea's first smart humidifier that works based on Internet of Things (IoT) technology.
The telecom company said Sunday it had worked with Korean humidifier manufacturer Miro to produce the smart device. Users can synchronize the device with mobile devices to monitor humidity and control the humidifier.
“We have tested the smart humidifier to satisfy parents with infants and children for the winter season,” LG Uplus converged home business senior vice president Ahn Sung-jun said.
“We plan to upgrade the smart humidifier by making it compatible with new sensors, which we will release to add features to the device.”
Established in 2014, Miro has been the nation’s leading provider of home ultrasonic humidifiers, selling more than 100,000 devices a year.
Miro said its humidifiers were made from LG Chem’s eco-friendly materials and had been designed to be assembled and disassembled easily for cleaning.
“We have added our humidifier, which can be disassembled for thorough cleaning, to LG Uplus’ leading IoT technology, and we believe the cooperation with benefit both of us,” Miro joint CEO and CTO Seo Dong-jin said.
The smart humidifier can be controlled using the smartphone application “IoT@home.” Users can set a voice-recognition timer to turn the humidifier on and off.
The timer is also compatible with the telecom company’s other IoT devices such as smart lighting and door locks, according to the status of other devices.
The new smart humidifier is another step toward completing the company’s IoT@home service lineup.
