Shinhan Card said Monday that it has introduced a new credit card service linked with Kakao Corp.’s mobile payment.

Users can begin using the service by registering the Shinhan Kakao Pay Card via Kakao Talk, Korea’s most-used mobile messenger, and receive discount benefits when paying for goods with the card linked with Kakao Pay at both online and offline retail stores.

The credit card company said that users can get up to a 20 percent discount on purchases at some 1,000 stores ranging from shopping malls, restaurants and travel agencies.

“We released the new card as a growing number of consumers are using Kakao Pay,” said Shinhan Card in a press statement.

There are more than 10 million users of Kakao Pay as of the first half of this year, according to Kakao. The mobile payment service was introduced two years ago.

Shinhan Card said that consumers will be able to use the joint service to pay for public transportation.
