Hyundai Motor has received more than 5,000 preorders for the new G80 luxury sedan since its June 13 introduction. Hyundai expects this will contribute significantly to the automaker’s sales performance. The G80 sedan is the second model of Hyundai Motor’s luxury brand, Genesis.
Hyundai said in a press release that the automaker has received a total of 5,120 preorders for the G80 in six days, 853 preorders a day.
“We have confirmed the consumers’ expectations of the Genesis brand and its G80 sedan through preorder sales,” said an official. “The company will carry out various marketing events and promotions, including test drives, along with its release next month.”
Hyundai Motor will provide a parts warranty extension for three years or 60,000 kilometers and five years or 100,000 kilometers. Three-year customer care service along with luxury hotel vouchers are also expected to be part of the package the G80 customers will enjoy, an official said.
The Genesis G80 sedan was first unveiled at the 2016 Busan International Motor Show, boasting elegant tweaks in its extended front grille and bumper with sharp headlamps.
Following the brand's first sedan model, the EQ900, the G80 is a face-lifted version of the second-generation Genesis DH, with an enhanced high-tech safety system and gentrified design.
It mounts a 3.8-liter V6 GDI engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission that produces a maximum 311 horsepower while the G80 Sport model is equipped with a Lambda II 3.3-liter twin-turbo GDI V6 engine that produces 370 horsepower with 52.0 kgf-m of torque.
The model also has 18-inch wheels and the rear bumper has chrome moldings.
Its newly installed Adaptive Full-LED Headlamps provide a wider range of illumination at night as they change direction when the vehicle is cornering.
Hyundai Motor recreated the Genesis brand last November to compete in the global luxury car market worldwide. Along with the brand introduction, Genesis introduced the EQ900, named G90 in overseas markets.
Hyundai officials said the G80 model will become prominent in the mid-luxury market, competing against the German BMW 5 series and Mercedes Benz E-Class.
