GM Korea, Nissan, Toyota, Hyundai to recall 6,019 cars

GM Korea, Nissan, Toyota and Hyundai Motor have been ordered to recall a total of 6,019 cars, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced Monday.

GM Korea’s Chevrolet Aveo hatchbacks were found to have a defect in the model’s headlamps failing to meet safety standards. A total of 3,987 cars made between Aug. 10, 2014, and Dec. 19, 2015, have been recalled for the defect.

The company’s Labo microvans have a fuse defect, in which the exhaust pipe when heated may damage the rough road sensor. If the sensor is damaged, the engine may shut down while driving. A total of 612 cars made between Dec. 1, 2015, and March 5 this year were affected.

Hyundai Motor’s LF Sonata, Avante AD and Kia Motors’ K5 were found to have an airbag defect. Due to the system malfunction, the airbag may not operate properly in case of accidents, a ministry official said.
