The number of Korean motorists who have joined in the lawsuit against Volkswagen is approaching 2,000, according to a law firm handling the case.
“As of Monday, 1,999 Koreans have filed lawsuits against Volkswagen AG, Audi AG, Audi-Volkswagen Korea, and their domestic sales outlets to cancel sales contracts and demand the repayment of purchase prices,” said Ha Jong-seon, a lawyer at Barun Law.
About 6,500 owners of these German cars have submitted documents needed to join the suit, Ha said, adding that his firm expects to receive up to 500 additional complaints every week. The Korean law firm, jointly with its U.S. partner, Quinn Emanuel, submitted a class action suit with the U.S. federal court in Los Angeles on Oct. 23.
The trial is expected to begin on Dec. 4, he said. Once the court and judges are decided, the following procedure will progress rapidly, he said.
