Novelis promotes aluminum construction materials

Novelis, a global producer of rolled aluminum and a recycler of beverage cans, has introduced a wide range of environmentally friendly, energy-efficient aluminum construction materials to capitalize on the country’s booming housing market.
The company said Tuesday that it is taking part in the Korea Architecture Fair and Festival at the COEX, southern Seoul, through Friday. Among others, it is showcasing Coloris TM, an innovative pre-painted aluminum for façades and roofing, high-strength aluminum sandwich panels and anodized aluminum.
“We adopted the pre-painting method, instead of the conventional post-painting, to produce Coloris TM. We apply coating to aluminum coils prior to processing,” a Novelis Korea spokeswoman said. “The continuous roll coating process enables the uniformity of color, pristine surfaces and the evenness of coating layers, as well as excellent fire-resistant properties to meet stricter fire safety requirements for high-rise buildings. Coloris TM offers a long-lasting surface quality and excellent weather resistance even in extreme climate zones.”
She said the innovative product enables panel manufacturers to achieve the same strength as the conventional aluminum panels with a lower thickness, resulting in significant cost savings due to a wider span.
Coloris TM was used in the Qingdao International Port as a roofing material, demonstrating its aesthetic and economic value in the architecture industry.
In addition, Novelis has streamlined the supply chain of Coloris TM and offers up to 20-year quality assurance to ensure more rigorous quality management and enhanced convenience for consumers.
“Amid the growing importance of the aesthetic value, sustainability and safety of buildings worldwide, the product represents an ideal solution for architects, with various advantages including premium surface quality, economic value, weather resistance and fire resistance,” Shashi Maudgal, CEO of Novelis Asia, said. “Coloris TM is the latest addition to our architecture product portfolio, further strengthening Novelis’ leadership in the building and construction market.”
The company also promotes other aluminum-based construction materials such as anodized quality products and sandwich panels.
The CEO said the high-quality aluminum for anodized materials provides an aesthetic building surface, targeting the high value-added construction market.
“In addition, high-strength aluminum for sandwich panels, which Novelis successfully commercialized in 2014 for the first time in the industry, is more economical, functional and environmentally friendly material than conventional steel sheets,” Maudgal said. “It has emerged as a new alternative to steel in the sandwich panel market.”
Novelis operates two aluminum rolling plants in Ulsan and Yeongju, North Gyeongsang Province. The company also runs an aluminum can recycling plant in Yeongju, which is capable of recycling 265,000 tons of beverage cans and scraps annually.
The Atlanta-headquartered aluminum producer is one of the few multinational companies that operate its Asia Pacific headquarters out of Korea. The company entered Asia’s fourth-largest economy more than 20 years ago and now employs nearly 1,400 workers.
