Coway, Korea’s largest home appliance rental service firm, has been focusing on offering the “smart home care,” a type of service that each household needs to keep things in order.

The company, which introduced the “Coway Lady” system in 1998, has evolved from a water purifier rental firm to a comprehensive home appliance rental and household service provider. It has been shifting the industrial landscape of home appliance services and offering innovative customer services.

Coway has turned its eyes to the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, combining water purifier and other household appliances with the Internet, which provides unprecedented smart, ubiquitous and tailored user experiences.

“We applied IoT technologies to household devices to offer customer-centered and smart services,” a Coway spokeswoman said. “We provide not only home appliances, but also unique services tailored to each household.”

For instance, the company has launched a water purifier linked with the Internet, helping users to develop a healthy water drinking pattern, she said. “Our air purifier monitors and diagnoses air quality in a real time, and automatically purify air when the levels of fine dust and other pollutants rise. This is the kind of services we are offering.”

On Oct. 7, Coway showcased its latest IoT air purifier, “Coway Dual Power Air Purifier IoCare,” which monitors air quality and offer solutions in accordance with households’ real time air quality.

“To capitalize on the growing demand for the management of indoor air quality, we decided to develop the latest air purifier,” the spokeswoman said. “Consumers cannot know how bad the air is inside home with exiting products. But IoCare allows consumers to check air quality constantly via their smartphones and offers services accordingly.”
