LG CNS holds hackathon competition with collegians

LG CNS said Sunday that it has hosted a hackathon contest with collegians to help them foster creativity and learn cooperation.

The system solution provider of LG Group held the event over two days from Friday, with 44 teams ― 12 of which are from college students ― competing for the contest.

CNS said that the hackathon, a combination of hacker and marathon, expects developers to either create software or hardware-based programs or applications that will help improve the safety of computer programming. To help them in their efforts, the participants were given 24-hours from 9 a.m. on August 21 and also authorized access to various data sets.

“Gold Peppers,” the name of a team of CNS engineers, won the gold prize, while a team of Seoul National University students was also awarded thanks to their development of technology that allows QR codes for separate transmitting.

“Our hackathon event was special, as CNS invited more collegians than previous events,” said the company spokesman. “By collaborating with students, we can be more open to their innovative ideas, and the students can also learn to collaborate and to materialize ideas for business.”

The company said in a statement that the 2015 LG CNS Hackathon event helped participants to learn how to incubate new business ideas and learn how to turn them into reality.
