BAT Korea lifts Dunhill price

British American Tobacco (BAT) Korea will raise the price of a packet of Dunhill cigarettes to 4,500 won from 2,700 won from Jan. 13, the company said Wednesday.

It will raise the price again to 4,700 won in February.

The belated price hike is the company’s response to the government’s 2,000 won tax increase on a packet of cigarettes from this year.

KT&G, the leading cigarette provider here, raised the price of its products by 2,000 won per packet from the start of the year.

A BAT Korea official said that the temporary price increase to 4,500 won was to raise awareness of the price hike among smokers.
