A popular U.S. popcorn brand ― Garrett Popcorn ― has opened up its first Korean shop in Shinsegae Department Store, downtown Seoul.

The product launch has been in the making as the popcorn brand has begun to expand into Asia. In doing so, the Chicago-based brand is expanding its partnership with top department and consumer channels in targeted Asian markets.

"The Korea market place is exciting and vibrant and we are happily committed to Shinsegae for our first shop in Seoul," said Lance Chody, chairman and CEO of Garrett Popcorn Ships, in a statement, Friday.

The popcorn brand is now available in Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Kuwait, Dubai and other major U.S. cities, including Las Vegas and New York.

Garrett Popcorn is the original handcrafted gourmet popcorn company started in 1949.

"All Garrett Popcorn is handmade in the shop in small batches. Each bite of Garrett Popcorn is a taste sensation like no other," said the statement.
