A team of students at Chonnam National University came up with the idea of making a vitamin mix into a type of cotton candy to receive the grand prix Wednesday at the competition held on the sidelines of Bio Korea 2014.
The competition of presenting creative ideas for improving health and wellbeing was sponsored by Amway Korea, the affiliate of the world’s leading direct-selling business here, and the award winners will be displayed through this Friday at Kintex in Goyang, northwest of Seoul.
“The Korean market for dietary supplements has grown at double-digit rates every year of late according to government data and many children also take them,” said a member of the Chonnam University team.
“To meet the demand for children, new types of health supplements are on the shelf. Along the same line, we developed the idea of making vitamins in a type of cotton candy so that young consumers can easily take them.”
Also winning the prize was a vitamin tumbler, which enables people to take vitamins and water together.
Amway Korea said that the event is a part of the company’s efforts to nurture global talent. The Seoul-based company plans to help the winners to gain patents on the out-of-the-box ideas.
“On the back of Amway’s strengths such as expertise in the wellness market and globalized approach, we are trying to support young generations who are the future growth engines,” an Amway official said.
