Group M Korea, the local office of the London-based Wire and Plastic Products (WPP)’s media investment management arm, has named Cho Seon-koog as its new CEO, the firm said Monday.

Cho previously served as chief operating officer (COO) for the Korean operations of the four agencies under Group M ― Maxus, MEC, Mediacom, and Mindshare ― that provide services on communications strategy, digital marketing, social media strategy, and other media-related plans.

The appointment came as part of Group M’s plans to cope with the rapid media landscape changes, including market structure, technology or consumer behaviors.

“We are particularly interested in the areas of advanced media planning and consumer insights, data and analytics, content and entertainment integration and of course all things digital,” the company said. “We are exploring how to leverage trading scale and skill for client advantage in this competitive market.”

According to Group M, its Korea branch is the “leading international media agency” in the region with over 80 employees. The total number of the firm’s workers is 21,560 with 400 offices around the world, including Europe, Asia, North America, and Latin America.

Its international market share in 2012 accounted for 32.7 percent, leading the second-placed Publicis that had 23.1 percent.
