Daewoo Shipbuilding's Romanian unit wins order for two car carriers

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., a Korean shipbuilder, said Tuesday that its Romanian unit has secured a deal to build two car carriers.

Under the deal with Ocean Yield of Norway, Daewoo Mangalia Heavy Industries S.A. will deliver the vessels by 2014, the company said in a statement. The shipbuilder did not reveal the financial terms of the contract.

The deal also includes an option to build four more ships, according to Daewoo Shipbuilding.

The vessels, 199.9 meters long and 32.3 meters wide, can carry up to 6,500 vehicles each, it said.

Daewoo Shipbuilding acquired the shipyard in Romania in 1999. (Yonhap)
