Samsung tops Apple in corporate image: poll
Samsung Electronics Co., the world's top smartphone maker, scored a small victory in a recent patent dispute with its rival Apple Inc. in terms of corporate image, a poll showed Tuesday.
The image of Samsung, which took a dive following a U.S. jury verdict in favor of Apple, surpassed that of its archrival in the past two weeks, according to a poll conducted by YouGov and published by CNET.
YouGov measures the two firms' image via its "buzz score" rating. The polling firm asked around 5,000 people in the U.S. each day whether they have heard about the two brands and whether it was positive or negative.
Samsung was better received than Apple in both the early adopter and the 18-34 age group, according to the report.
"Samsung's buzz score was cut in half from 26 on that day to 12 by August 31, while Apple rose modestly from 33 to 38 in the same period, making a 26 point difference between the two brands at the end of the month," said YouGov's Ted Marzilli, referring to the Aug. 24 ruling in which a U.S. federal jury awarded Apple US$1.05 billion in damages and denied Samsung's claims.
Marzilli added that Samsung then proceeded to make gains and surpassed the Cupertino, California firm late last week. (Yonhap)
