Hyundai Motor Co. said Monday it has resumed operations at its China Plant 1, just 17 days after the plant's painting facilities caught fire.
Operations normalized Saturday to roll out 1,200 vehicles, a company spokesman said, adding employees reported to work for Saturday night shifts and continued work Sunday to compensate for the production losses sustained since fire broke out at the plant on May 8.
Hyundai has used the painting facility at its China Plant 3, which has been under start-up tests, to minimize production losses. The China Plant 3 is to officially begin operations in July.
Hyundai, the world's fifth-largest automobile company, has sold 252,259 vehicles in China during the first four months this year, up 2.4 percent from a year earlier.
China's automobile market contracted 1.3 percent during the same time span. (Yonhap)
