Citibank Korea said Friday that the bank regrets its unionists’ action of preventing CEO Ha Yung-ku from entering his office for a week since Monday over the implementation of a merit-based performance system.
"We respect the labor union’s right to protest peacefully but the recent actions they have taken are not appropriate,“ said the local unit of U.S.-based Citigroup in a statement.
Citi also said that it has no intention of expanding the performance-based pay system at the lender, which the union opposes.
“The labor union has alleged that we are planning to expand the annual salary system without any consultation with it. As the union well knows, any move such as this would need to be agreed mutually with the union and there are currently no plans for such steps.”
