Samsung to showcase low-priced smartphones at trade show

Listen

Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. said Tuesday that it will showcase a new lineup of its low-priced smartphones at the mobile industry's largest trade show slated for late this month.

Samsung said it will put on display its 3.8-inch Galaxy Ace 2 and 3.3-inch Galaxy Mini 2 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), the world's largest trade fair in the mobile industry. The show will be held from Feb. 27 to March 1 in Barcelona, Spain.

Samsung said that the new lineup of the low-priced smartphones will be equipped with faster application processors and improved cameras, both of which are powered by Android-based operating systems.

Their predecessors are priced at around $150-200, with the company undecided on when the devices will reach the market.

Samsung Electronics, however, said it will not unveil its much-awaited premium smartphone Galaxy S3 at the MWC, trumping market expectations for successors of the Galaxy S2, which has sold more than 10 million units so far. Instead, Samsung will showcase its Galaxy Note 10.1, which combines the strength of a smartphone with a tablet computer.

Its rival LG Electronics Inc., which is ramping up efforts to turnaround its handset business, plans to showcase a new lineup of smartphones, including the 5-inch Optimus Vu at the trade show. (Yonhap)
