A nuclear reactor in Korea stopped operating Tuesday for unknown reasons, a state-run nuclear power plant operator said.

The Unit-1 reactor with a capacity of 1-million kilowatt in Uljin, 330 kilometers southeast of Seoul, came to a standstill at around 8 p.m., according to the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co.

The plant operator said no radioactivity leaks were reported, and it is working to find the cause of the stoppage.

The reactor went into operation in August 1988.

In October of this year, another nuclear reactor at the same plant stopped operations due to a malfunction of the coolant pump. (Yonhap)
