President Lee Myung-bak on Monday named an energy policy veteran as a new second vice minister at the Ministry of Knowledge Economy in charge of energy and industry affairs, the presidential office announced.
Cho Seok, 54, spent decades handling mainly energy and resources policies at the ministry before taking office as head of the Korea Industrial Complex Corp. earlier this year, the office said in a statement.
Cho entered the government after passing the high civil service exam in 1981.
His leadership qualities and expertise were main factors for his appointment, the office said.
Lee also named Song Jong-ho, 55, who is now head of the Small and Medium Business Corp., as chief of the Small and Medium Business Administration, a vice minister-level post, the office said. (Yonhap)
